No.10 Guards Van

The chassis for this van was donated to the BWLR by a friend of the railway. It arrived at the BWLR towards the end of October 2005 in a rusty and dilapidated state, its origin is unknown but it is believed to be ex MOD and very similar to our other goods stock chassis.

East Greta C.M.Co.Ltd Brake Van
The Chassis was completely stripped and rebuilt to 2 foot gauge. The design of the van is loosely based on a balcony ended brake van on the East Greta C.M.Co.Ltd line.

Guards Van chassis undergoing rebuild
The chassis has been completely stripped, cleaned, rebuilt and painted. Here it is seen with new outriggers being fitted to widen the chassis.

Guards Van floor and end frames added
The floor has now been added and the end frames welded up and test fitted. This was the first step in building the new van.

Guards Van wooden framework
The wooden skeleton for the van is erected, unto this will be fixed tongue and groove boarding.

Guards Van internal roof
The internal of the roof was finished to the same standard as the new carriages.

Guards Van is complete
The van in its finished state, with metal end frames, but prior to the metal gates being fitted and being sign written.
