Another attraction, mainly for the younger visitors, is the G Scale model railway, this is being constructed with LGB track and accessories and will run a selection of LGB locomotives and stock.
As all railway modellers know a model railway hardly ever gets finished, scenery can take forever and there is always some little item that can be added. However it is planned that this layout will be running in its basic form by our first Public Open Day on Sunday 5th May 2002.
The object of this page is to display the various stages being taken in the construction of our layout.
First the size and location of the layout had to be decided. A suitable corner of the side shed was selected alongside the Bean Car Collection.
The space allotted measured 8 metres by 6 metres (see sketch). The plan is for the track to be on two levels approximately 75 cms and 105 cms high. The bottom run will be end to end with a reverse loop at either end, while the upper run will be a complete circuit with a passing loop.
If all goes well it should be fully automated.
From the plan and by using the LGB Track template it was possible to work out the necessary track requirments.

Then off to Chalk Garden Rail for friendly service and assistance. What could not be supplied there and then was placed on order and it was back to Bredgar with a car load of LGB goodies.
Building of the baseboards started towards the end of August 2001. A firm, solid timber frame was built around the corner of the shed. All timber was treated.

To this was fixed MDF boards for the track beds.
A space has been left in the corner for a water feature. This has yet to be finalised, some experiments have to be made before we continue with this idea.
