Nearly another year has passed and time to add a few more comments about the LGB Model.

Throughout the last period of Open Days general maintenance was on going, always following an open day something needs attention.

In the past we have run two identical locos on the upper track and once we have set the Jumbo controller up these two locos ran with little interference from the operators, however we decided to have three trains running, one running and two stationary at any one time. Unfortunately the newer locos that we now use appear to have different motors and consequently they all run at different controller speeds, creating problems for the operators as they cannot take their 'eye of the ball'.

So, over the winter we have made some changes to the wiring and points and reverted to just two trains running on the upper track.

Skip Lorry mechanism Also during the year another mechanical item was created and added to the layout for the last two open days.

On of our group donated a skip lorry which is roughly the correct gauge for the model and it only seemed right that it should work. The lorry is mounted on its own board which was then set into the layout. The skip is lifted and returned to the lorry by a lever, hidden as much as possible behind the lorry's body. Below the board the lever is pulled in one direction by an electric motor and then when the motor is reversed a counterweight returns the lever to its initial starting point, thus lifting the skip on and off the lorry. A flashing amber light has been fixed to the cab and this only operates when the skip is on the move.

Street CleanerThe 'Street Cleaning Vehicle', or should this be the 'Mountain Pass Road Cleaning Vehicle' which was fitted last winter had some problems running smoothly. It has had a complete new mechanism constructed and been replaced, only time will tell if this is successful.

The last update stated that we were running out of ideas, but not to be beaten we have come up with another 'gizmo'.

Tunnel inspection BoatThis is a 'Tunnel Inspection Boat'. A small flat bottomed punt with a large searchlight which emerges from the river tunnel. Its role in life is to examine the walls of the lengthy tunnel that passes under the mountains. For those with a nautical knowledge it should be noted that the navigation lights change according to the direction of travel.

The layout has been test run and is now ready for the next Open Season, when, perhaps, some of our visitors might suggest items that we could add.
